PAACEBoard meeting 12/12/00

Attendance:

November Minutes:

Novemberminutes were approved with minor corrections.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Jeffpresented the Treasurer’s Report for Deb. A question was raised about the cost of printing postcards fornotification to membership about PAACE News online. The issue of the cost will be addressed in January. 

A motionwas made to approve the Treasurer’s report, carried unanimously.

 

1stVice President(Karen Mundie):

Karen isworking on the Midwinter conference tabloid, and scheduling sessions. Karen and Joan will work on the assignment in January. 

Karen hasother committees working on items such as registration, a “freebies” forconference registrants.  Joan willwork on a tote for conference registrants.

 

Anotherissue that needed to be addressed about Midwinter Conference is the PDC partiesand disc jockey, and where to have them.

 

Anotherissue addressed is the cost of laptop lab. A price acquired by Angie Parrett, with the help of Barb VanHorn,reflects a savings for PAACE.  Wewill go ahead and have the lab again this year, but just on Thursday and Friday.

A good discussion ocurred regarding the computer lab, topics coveredincluded: cost and benefit accrued, gauging the use of the lab, and havingstructured lab activities.

The issueof participant cost  for theMidwinter Conference was addressed, whether items need to be revised in order tostay in line with costs.

Jeffsuggested that we add the Midwinter Conference to the strategic plan, as an itemall to itself, in order to review issues involved with the Midwinter Conference.

 

2ndVicePresident(Linda Herr):

Lindapresented issues on the strategic plan.  Deadlinefor information to Linda is January 3rd, so that information could bepresented at the January 9th board meeting. The goal is to come up with a framework for the strategic plan.

 

Executive Director’sReport(Joan Leopold):

Joanreceived 2 requests for the PAACE journal.

Also a noteof thanks from Julie Fluke came about the flowers.  Julie will be attending the Midwinter Conference. Joan shared a copy of the new issue of “The Buzz”.

President’s Report(JeffWoodyard):

Jeff received an e-mail form the International Journal ofEducation, in England, about promoting their journal at the PAACE MidwinterConference.

A CoffeeGathering will occur in the spring.

 

ESL (Carol)

Carol waspleased with kind of presenters who will be attending the Midwinter Conference.

 

Standing Committees

LegislationCommittee (JoAnn)

Suggestionabout putting  legislative alertsthe website.  JoAnn will contact Debabout doing that.

Familyliteracy bill is re-introduced in the house and senate in January in Harrisburg. Paul Davis and JoAnn will be working hard at Midwinter Conferenceregarding the gubenatorial election, and working through the Friday lunches.

 

Membership:

Joan statedthat the 1999 list will be purged.

Membershipstands at 980 at this point.

Dr. DavidManzo has accepted the Chairperson position of the Membership Committee.

 

Publications (Tana):

There were252 hits to the fall issue of PAACE news.  Alsomaking a pitch for copy, which is due on Monday.

 

Jeffbrought up the issue of support for the research conference. Jeff was in touch with Deb and Gary Dean.  Jeff is asking the board to act as the fiscal agent for theresearch conference.  He also askedfor a motion for the board to take on the duty.

Jeff askedthat a  motion be made to increasethe administrative support the research conference by acting fiscal agent. The motion was accepted unanimously.
