PAACE BOARD MEETING 2/8/01

Mid WinterConference

 

Attendance:  Mike Sobkowski, Dave Manzo, Rianna Mearns,Joan Leopold, Linda Herr, Gary Dean, Trenton Fierro, Jeff Woodyard, CarolKlauss, JoAnn Weinberger, Karen Mundie, Mary Kay Peterson, Bob McNeil, Barb VanHorn,  Julie Fluke, Dehra Shaffer,  Deb Burrows.

 

JulieFluke spoke to the group.  She thanked PAACEfor our support, and updated us on how she was doing.

 

Approval of January Minutes

 A motion was made to accept the JanuaryMinutes.  The motion was acceptedunanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report ( DebBurrows)

Asof 2/9 Mary Hohensse,the incoming PAACE treasurer will be the designee on thePAACE accounts.  Deb passed around herreport.  A motion  was made to accept the Treasurer’sReport.  The motion was unanimous.  An unanticipated expense in regard toMidwinter conference needed to be paid, and was approved by the board.

 

First Vice President (KarenMundie)

MidwinterConference is going well.  Volunteerhelp from the membership has been great. GPLC Staff has been a great help toKaren.

 

Second Vice President (LindaHerr)

Finaldraft of the  strategic plan has beenpassed out to the board.   A motion  was made to accept the  Strategic Plan.  It was passed unanimously. It will be presented at the membership luncheon.

ExecutiveDirectors Report ( Joan Leopold)

Nextyear’s Midwinter Conference will be held one week later (2/12/02-2/15/02).  The conference in 2003 may be held somewhereother than  Hershey.  Deb Burrows will look   into alternatives and get back to the board.    A Sub committee will be formed to help Deb.  A discussion occurred  about alternatives.

Mary Kayis  looking for an Assistant Co-Chair

ABSEand Family Literacy are having a combined lunch on Friday.

 

CEA/PA (Bob McNeil)

Bobreported that there is good attendance of higher ed. people at the conference

 

 

ESL(Carol Klauss)

Carolsaid membership from ESL is please with the kind of presentations beingmade.  Carol said the current ESLpopulation  being served versus thepotential population that could served in PA is very small.

 

Family Literacy(MikeSobkowski)

Familyliteracy is booming.  Over 23 programsare present in the marketplace.

Awards(Bob)

Awardsare going very well,with good representation. This is the 1st year that the CEA/PA  is presenting awards  at the Midwinter Conference.

 

Research Task Force(Gary)

Thejournal is available.  The content  does present PAARN and PALPIN projects inthe    journal,  and could be an  on going  regular sectionof the journal.  Mailing to membershipis occurring now.  Plans are movingalong with PA research conference, the only major cost is for the keynote speakers.

 

Membership(Dave)

Davediscussed the creation of a Membership Demographic Form(discussion on form),and the need for the board to review and make suggestions before the form isdistributed to membership. He is  working on a new PAACE brochure, and may be able to present adraft at the March meeting.

Also,there were two new PAACE life members.
