Goodling Family Literacy Best Practices Awards

The Family Literacy Division of PAACE, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Family Literacy Training Project and the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy established the Goodling Family Literacy Best Practices Awards to recognize Pennsylvania Family Literacy Programs for their efforts to implement evidence-based practices that improve educational services for families and to promote the use of best practices across the Commonwealth.

Former Congressman Bill Goodling, Chair of the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy Advisory Board and “Father of Even Start,” presented the awards during the Family Literacy Division Luncheon at the annual PAACE Midwinter Conference.

Outstanding Adult Educator Award

Each year at the annual conference banquet, a PAACE member is presented the Outstanding Adult Educator Award. The recipient is selected by past winners (see list below). Rick Gacka, Stairways Behavioral Health, was presented with the award at the PAACE Midwinter Conference.

Outstanding Adult Students in Postsecondary/Higher Education Awards

PAACE presents awards to successful adult learners who are or were full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students in any postsecondary, degree-granting institution in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Students are presented with this award at the PAACE Recognition Luncheon.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the PAACE 2010 Award Recognizing Outstanding Adult Students in Higher Education until May 3, 2010.

Joan Y. Leopold PAACE Service Award
Sue Snider Award Winner
Sue Snider (left) receives her award from Tana Reiff at the 2009 PAACE Midwinter Conference.

This award is given to an individual who has exhibited outstanding dedication and service to support PAACE's mission. It is given in memory of our beloved Executive Director Joan Y. Leopold who dedicated many years of service to advance the adult education and continuing education field.

This award was presented to Sue Snider, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. Sherry Royce and Chuck Klinger were former recipients.
