The Power of Students’ Voices in PA
During National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in late September, the two Title II administrators in Lancaster and Lebanon counties visited daytime and evening classrooms to encourage staff and students to use the Educate and Elevate website to thank elected officials for providing adult education funding. The results were astounding! During that one week period, 131 adult learners in the two-county region made 941 connections with 27 local, state, and federal legislators to voice their support for adult education.
There are considerably more adult learners than adult education staff members in PA, and it’s imperative that we use the collective voice of educators and students alike in promoting the importance of adult education. During the same Educate and Elevate campaign in PA, a total of 174 students and staff took action resulting in 1,293 connections with 54 legislators.
We know, through recent Educate and Elevate campaigns which resulted in funding increases in other states and at the national level, that this type of online advocacy is effective. The tool provides a user-friendly opportunity for advocates to easily connect with their elected officials with a personalized message. Please take advantage of Educate and Elevate to promote adult education in every county!
