CONNECTING COMMUNITY WITH LITERACY PITTSBURGH

Literacy Pittsburgh recently hosted classroom visits for individual donors as well as elected officials and their staff. Guests have observed a U.S. citizenship class in session and helped students practice for the citizenship interview. This has been a fantastic way to engage people in our mission and show them how hard our students work to achieve their goals.

record high GED Graduation at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC)

From Jennifer Millard GED & Instructional Programs Coordinator

The GED Graduation was a joyous celebration! In 2023/2024, HACC had a record-breaking 30+ GED graduates, and I firmly believe that the commencement ceremony was a huge motivator for many of our students because it gave them an opportunity to walk across the stage in front of their children and families. We have the HACC Diversity Innovation Grant Fund to thank for their generosity for the entire event, including caps, gowns, tassels, and a buffet of various appetizers, cakes, desserts and beverages.

Since only 26 of our GED graduates in 23/24 were able to attend the graduation ceremony, we were also able to include 9 high school equivalency completers from the Tri-County OIC, which made the event even more celebratory. In fact, over 300 people filled the auditorium!
